About Mountaineers of Iceland
Mountaineers of Iceland is the country's oldest snowmobile tour operator, founded in 1996 by a group of Icelandic mountaineering enthusiasts who saw the potential for guided motorised adventures on Iceland's vast glacier caps. Based in the Reykjavik suburb of Skutuvogur, the company has grown into one of Iceland's most respected adventure operators, running daily snowmobile expeditions on Langjokull — the second-largest glacier in Europe — as well as Super Jeep tours to the highlands and remote interior.
Their signature experience is the Langjokull snowmobile tour, where guests ride two-up on powerful Ski-Doo machines across an endless white expanse at 1,200 metres elevation with panoramic views of Iceland's volcanic interior. Tours range from one-hour introductory rides to extended half-day adventures that venture deep into the glacier's interior. No prior snowmobile experience is needed — guides provide full training, helmets, balaclavas, and overalls. They also operate Super Jeep highland tours to Thorsmork valley, Landmannalaugar hot springs, and the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, as well as combination Golden Circle plus snowmobile day trips.
With nearly three decades of glacier operations under their belt, Mountaineers of Iceland has an unmatched safety record and intimate knowledge of Langjokull's constantly changing conditions. Their fleet of Super Jeeps — modified Land Cruisers with 44-inch tyres — can access terrain no ordinary vehicle can reach, opening up Iceland's most remote and dramatic landscapes to visitors. Hotel pickup from Reykjavik is included with every tour, making the logistics completely seamless.
