About Elding Adventure at Sea
Elding Adventure at Sea is Reykjavik's largest and longest-running whale watching company, operating a fleet of purpose-built vessels from the Old Harbour in the heart of the city. Founded in 2000, Elding pioneered commercial whale watching in the Reykjavik area and has since welcomed over a million guests aboard their boats. The waters of Faxafloi Bay are home to humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises, with sighting success rates consistently above 95 percent during peak summer months.
Beyond their flagship classic whale watching tours, Elding offers an impressive range of marine experiences including express whale watching on their high-speed RIB boats, puffin watching excursions to Akurey and Lundey islands from May through August, sea angling trips, Northern Lights boat cruises in winter, and ferry service to historic Videy Island. Their largest vessel carries up to 200 passengers with indoor heated salons, an outdoor viewing deck, and an on-board cafe, while their smaller boats offer more intimate, fast-paced encounters. Combo tickets bundling whale watching with puffin tours or Videy Island are popular choices.
What distinguishes Elding is their commitment to responsible whale watching — they were among the first Icelandic operators to adopt the IceWhale code of conduct and employ on-board marine biologists who provide educational commentary during every tour. Their central Old Harbour location means guests can walk from downtown Reykjavik hotels in under ten minutes, and departures run multiple times daily year-round. With a quarter-century of experience reading Faxafloi's currents and whale behaviour, Elding's captains know exactly where to find the action.
