About Matterhorn Test Centre
The Matterhorn Test Centre is an on-mountain ski testing and rental facility at the Trockener Steg station, sitting at 2,939 metres in the heart of the Zermatt–Cervinia ski area. Operated by Zermatt Bergbahnen, the centre occupies over 600 square metres of purpose-built space and is one of the highest ski rental operations in the Alps, offering visitors the rare opportunity to test and rent equipment surrounded by glacier terrain.
The facility stocks demo models from up to seventeen leading ski brands including Stöckli, Atomic, Head, Völkl, and Rossignol, allowing skiers to swap between manufacturers and find their ideal setup on real snow. Staff provide professional fitting advice, and models rotate throughout the season to reflect the latest releases. Guests bring their own boots and poles; skis are included in the test fee and can be exchanged multiple times during a session.
What makes the Matterhorn Test Centre exceptional is its altitude and access to guaranteed snow — the glacier is skiable from October through May, making it one of the longest-season test facilities in Europe. The centre also includes heated ski lockers and a depot service, so visitors can stow gear at the station and ride the gondola back to the village unburdened.
