About Kaituna Cascades
Kaituna Cascades is a locally owned and operated whitewater rafting company based at Okere Falls, specialising in grade-five rafting on the legendary Kaituna River. Established in 1991, they're one of Rotorua's longest-running rafting operators and have built a loyal following among adventure seekers drawn to the raw thrill of dropping over Tutea Falls.
Their signature experience is the Kaituna River rafting trip, which tackles 14 rapids and three waterfalls including the seven-metre Tutea Falls — the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world. The trip covers approximately five kilometres of river with 50 to 60 minutes of water time, suitable for anyone aged 13 and over with a reasonable level of fitness. Professional guides handle the technical navigation while guests focus on holding on and enjoying the ride.
What distinguishes Kaituna Cascades from other rafting operators on the river is their three decades of local expertise and their intimate knowledge of the Kaituna's moods — they've run this stretch in every condition imaginable. The small-group format means more personalised attention from guides, and their Okere Falls base puts you right at the river's edge with minimal transfer time. It's pure, no-frills whitewater at its finest.
