About Cornish Wave Surf School
Cornish Wave is a surf school and paddleboard hire operation based on Fore Street in Newquay, the birthplace of British surfing. Since 2012, they've been teaching people to ride waves on Newquay's world-class beaches, with ISA-qualified instructors selecting the best beach each day based on conditions — whether that's the famous breaks at Fistral, the sheltered waters of Towan, or the expansive sands of Watergate Bay.
Lessons run in small groups of no more than eight students per instructor, covering everything from complete beginner sessions through to improver and intermediate coaching. They also offer multi-day surf camps, activity weekends combining surfing with coasteering or paddleboarding, and private one-to-one tuition. Their shop near Newquay Harbour stocks surfboards and paddleboards for hire, as well as wetsuits and accessories, making it easy for independent surfers to gear up and hit the water at their own pace.
What distinguishes Cornish Wave is their daily beach selection approach — rather than being tied to a single location, instructors assess wind, swell, and tide to choose the optimal spot each session. This flexibility, combined with consistently small group sizes and a relaxed, supportive teaching style, has made them one of Newquay's most highly rated surf schools on TripAdvisor and Google.
