Telluride Outfitters has been the region's premier adventure touring company since 1988, operating daily from their guide shop in Mountain Village with a Polaris Adventures base camp located fifteen miles from town. Their winter programme centres on guided snowmobile tours that range from beginner-friendly groomed trails to expert backcountry expeditions, with the Alta Ghost Town tour — offered three times daily — serving as the most popular outing. Full-day excursions to Dunton Hot Springs include lunch and a soak in the historic hot springs, while the Barlow Creek Backcountry tour challenges intermediate and advanced riders with high-alpine terrain.
When the snow melts, Telluride Outfitters pivots to Polaris RZR side-by-side tours on US Forest Service roads and trails, accommodating everything from solo travellers to groups of thirty or more. Tours are graded by difficulty, so first-timers and experienced off-road riders alike can find a route that suits them. Jeep Wrangler rentals are also available for self-guided exploration of the region's legendary alpine passes and mining roads, and guided fly-fishing trips round out the summer adventure menu.
Transportation is provided from the Mountain Village guide shop to all trailheads, so guests don't need their own vehicle to join any excursion. The company's partnership with Polaris Adventures gives them access to a well-maintained fleet of current-model snowmobiles and RZRs, and their guides — many of whom have lived in Telluride for decades — bring deep local knowledge of the area's mining history, wildlife, and backcountry terrain to every tour.
