About Shotover Jet
Shotover Jet is Queenstown's most iconic jet boat experience, blasting through the narrow Shotover River canyons at speeds of up to 85 kilometres per hour. Operating since 1965, they hold exclusive rights to operate in the spectacular Shotover Canyon, where sheer rock walls rise metres from the boat on either side. The combination of high-speed thrills and breathtaking canyon scenery has made this one of the most recognised adventure tourism brands in New Zealand.
Each ride lasts approximately 25 minutes and covers sections of the Shotover River that are otherwise inaccessible. The big red jet boats seat up to 14 passengers and are piloted by expert drivers who execute 360-degree spins through the narrow passages. Trips depart from the Shotover Jet base in Arthur's Point, just a short drive from central Queenstown, with shuttles available from the town centre. No experience or special fitness is required — riders simply need to hold on tight.
What makes Shotover Jet legendary is the combination of natural canyon beauty with genuine adrenaline. The Shotover Canyon is a protected heritage site, and the narrow rock formations create an intensity that flat-water jet boat rides simply cannot match. With over six million passengers carried since inception, they have perfected the experience. Pre-booking is recommended during peak season as trips frequently sell out, especially during school holidays and the busy summer months from December to March.
