About Sail Acadia
Sail Acadia offers sailing cruises and lobster boat tours along the coastline of Mount Desert Island, departing from Dysart's Great Harbor Marina in Southwest Harbor, about twenty minutes from downtown Bar Harbor. The fleet includes two classic Friendship sloops, the Alice E. and Helen Brooks, as well as a traditional wooden lobster boat, the Elizabeth T., giving passengers an authentically Maine way to experience the Acadia coastline.
Trips range from shared sailing excursions that glide past granite headlands, spruce-covered islands, and working lobster boats, to private charters tailored to special occasions like anniversaries and family reunions. The lobster boat outings offer a hands-on look at Maine's iconic industry, with captains hauling traps and explaining the fishery while guests take in the scenery of Somes Sound and the outer islands.
Sail Acadia's appeal lies in the intimacy of the experience. The Friendship sloops carry small groups, keeping the atmosphere relaxed and personal, a contrast to the larger cruise boats operating out of Bar Harbor. Departing from the quieter Southwest Harbor side of the island also means calmer waters and a more scenic approach to Acadia's dramatic sea cliffs and hidden coves.
