About Loch Insh Outdoor Centre
Loch Insh Outdoor Centre is a multi-activity adventure hub set on the shores of Loch Insh in Kincraig, deep within the Cairngorms National Park between Aviemore and Kingussie. The centre has been introducing visitors to the Scottish outdoors for over 50 years, offering an unusually broad range of water and land-based activities from a single lakeside location. With the Cairngorm mountains as a backdrop and the loch stretching out in front, few outdoor centres in the UK can match the setting.
The watersports programme includes sailing, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, and windsurfing, with equipment hire and instruction available for all ages and abilities from April through October. On land, activities include archery, mountain biking, and orienteering, while the centre's dry ski slope provides a taste of skiing and snowboarding year-round without needing snow. Group sessions, school programmes, corporate team-building days, and multi-activity holiday packages are all part of the offering, with qualified instructors leading every session.
Loch Insh stands out for the sheer breadth of what is available in one place. Families can spend a full day rotating between kayaking, archery, and the ski slope without ever leaving the site, while more serious paddlers or sailors can book extended sessions on the loch with expert coaching. The centre also has a well-regarded restaurant, a boathouse bar, and accommodation options ranging from B&B rooms to self-catering chalets, making it a genuine base camp for a Cairngorms adventure holiday.
