About Cairngorm Mountain
Cairngorm Mountain is Scotland's most accessible ski resort, located in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park near Aviemore. Rising to 1,245 metres, the mountain offers skiing and snowboarding across 30 runs served by a network of lifts including the Cairngorm Mountain Railway funicular. The resort has been the home of Scottish skiing since the 1960s and remains the country's most popular winter sports destination, drawing thousands of skiers and boarders each season to its varied terrain.
The on-site rental centre at Day Lodge Level 3 offers a full range of ski and snowboard equipment including skis, boots, poles, snowboards, and helmets, all properly maintained and fitted by experienced staff. Lessons are available through the ski school for beginners through to advanced skiers looking to improve their off-piste technique. Beyond winter, Cairngorm Mountain operates as a year-round visitor attraction with the funicular railway, mountain trails, ranger-guided walks, and a tubing park that runs through the summer months.
What makes Cairngorm Mountain unique in the UK context is the genuine alpine experience it delivers. The high-altitude snowfields, the dramatic corries, and the unpredictable Scottish mountain weather create conditions that feel far more like the European Alps than most visitors expect. The resort has invested heavily in snowmaking and grooming equipment to extend the season, and the funicular provides reliable summit access even when conditions are challenging lower down.
