About Jake's Horses
Jake's Horses is Big Sky's most established horseback riding outfitter, operating from their ranch on Beaver Creek Road in the Gallatin Canyon just south of Big Sky Resort. With direct access to trails in the Gallatin National Forest and the Lee Metcalf Wilderness, they offer guided rides through some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in southwest Montana — river meadows, old-growth forests, alpine ridgelines, and open valleys where wildlife sightings are a regular occurrence.
Rides are available year-round, ranging from one-hour introductory trail rides suitable for complete beginners and young children to half-day and full-day backcountry excursions that venture deep into wilderness areas inaccessible by vehicle. Winter horseback rides through snow-covered landscapes are a particular highlight, offering a peaceful alternative to the bustle of the ski resort. The horses are experienced mountain trail animals — sure-footed, calm, and well-suited to riders of all ability levels.
Jake's Horses has earned a devoted following over decades of operation, with families returning generation after generation. The guides are working cowboys and cowgirls who bring genuine ranching knowledge and natural horsemanship to every ride, making the experience feel authentic rather than touristy. Their Gallatin Canyon location, surrounded by peaks topping 10,000 feet, ensures that every ride delivers the kind of dramatic Rocky Mountain scenery that defines a Montana vacation.
