About Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch
Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch is New England's original whale watching company, operating out of Provincetown, Massachusetts since the late 1970s. As the first commercial whale watch operation on the East Coast, Dolphin Fleet pioneered the industry and has been taking visitors to the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary for over four decades. Their partnership with the Center for Coastal Studies ensures every trip doubles as a marine research expedition, with onboard scientists collecting data while narrating the experience for passengers.
Trips depart from MacMillan Pier multiple times daily from April through October, with each excursion lasting three to four hours. The fleet of large, stable vessels accommodates hundreds of passengers with heated indoor cabins, outdoor viewing decks, a galley serving food and beverages, and ADA-accessible facilities. Species commonly encountered include humpback whales, fin whales, minke whales, and occasionally the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale. Naturalists provide live commentary throughout, identifying individual whales by their fluke patterns and sharing their life histories.
What makes Dolphin Fleet exceptional is the scientific credibility behind every voyage. Their long-running partnership with the Center for Coastal Studies means passengers aren't just watching whales — they're contributing to real conservation research. The naturalists' ability to identify and tell the stories of individual whales by name transforms a sightseeing trip into an emotional, educational experience that has earned Dolphin Fleet a devoted following and consistently top ratings among Cape Cod attractions.
