About Cabalgata Don Tobias
Cabalgata Don Tobias is a family-run horseback riding operation located in La Palma, just east of La Fortuna town on the road toward Arenal Volcano. The stables sit on a private farm with direct views of the volcano, and the riding trails wind through cattle pastures, river crossings, primary forest, and the dramatic Arenal canyon \u2014 offering one of the most scenic horseback experiences in all of Costa Rica.
Their main tour is a two-to-three-hour horseback ride across the family's farm and into the surrounding countryside, crossing the Arenal River and passing through dense tropical forest teeming with wildlife. Riders of all experience levels are welcome \u2014 horses are well-trained and guides match each rider to an appropriate mount. The route offers multiple viewpoints of Arenal Volcano and the surrounding valley, with stops for photos and wildlife spotting along the way.
Don Tobias stands out because it's a genuine family farm operation, not a mass-tourism outfit. The horses are cared for by the family who've worked these lands for generations, and the guides share stories about local farming life, the 1968 eruption, and the ecology of the Arenal corridor. Group sizes are kept small for a personal, unhurried experience through some of La Fortuna's most beautiful countryside.
