About AJ Hackett Bungy
AJ Hackett Bungy is where commercial bungy jumping began. In 1988, AJ Hackett and Henry van Asch launched the world's first permanent commercial bungy operation from the historic Kawarau Bridge, 43 metres above the turquoise Kawarau River near Queenstown. That original site remains open today, drawing visitors from around the world who want to experience the jump that started a global phenomenon.
The Queenstown operation now spans three distinct jump sites, each offering a different experience. The Kawarau Bridge Bungy is the classic — a 43-metre leap where you can choose to touch or fully submerge in the river below. The Nevis Bungy, suspended 134 metres above the Nevis River gorge, is New Zealand's highest bungy and one of the most extreme in the world. The Ledge Bungy, perched 400 metres above Queenstown at the top of the Skyline Gondola, offers the most scenic urban jump with panoramic views across Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding mountains. They also operate the Nevis Swing and Ledge Swing for those who prefer a swinging arc to a vertical plunge.
What sets AJ Hackett apart from imitators is authenticity and safety record. As the inventors of commercial bungy, their safety systems and operational standards are the benchmark the entire industry follows. Every jump master undergoes rigorous training, and equipment is checked before each and every jump. The brand has expanded to sites around the world, but the Queenstown locations remain the spiritual home of bungy jumping and a must-do for thrill seekers visiting the adventure capital.
