About The Rock Adventure Cruise
The Rock Adventure Cruise is the Bay of Islands' only overnight boat cruise experience, offering a unique 22-hour adventure that combines kayaking, fishing, snorkelling, island walks, and campfire evenings in one all-inclusive package. Departing from Paihia Wharf at 5pm, guests cruise out to a sheltered anchorage among the islands and spend the night aboard a converted car ferry that has been transformed into a floating adventure lodge.
The itinerary packs in a remarkable range of activities: guided kayaking through sheltered bays, line fishing for snapper, snorkelling over reef systems, bush walks on uninhabited islands, night kayaking under the stars, and target shooting. All meals are included — a barbecue dinner, breakfast, and lunch — along with unlimited tea and coffee. Private cabins sleep two to five guests, with options ranging from double beds with a single bunk to larger family configurations with multiple bunks.
The Rock stands out as a genuinely one-of-a-kind experience in New Zealand tourism. Rather than a few hours on the water, guests get a full immersion in the Bay of Islands environment — waking up anchored in a quiet bay, fishing at dawn, and having an entire island to explore before other day-trippers arrive. It consistently ranks among the top-rated activities in the region and attracts a mix of backpackers, families, and international visitors looking for something beyond the standard cruise.
