About Sky Blue Happo-one Paraglider School
Sky Blue Happo-one Paraglider School is one of Japan's largest paragliding schools, operating tandem sightseeing flights and pilot training courses from the slopes of Happo-one in the Hakuba Valley. The school launches from a dedicated site at 1,400 metres elevation — accessed via the Happo-one gondola — and lands at 750 metres in the valley floor, giving passengers a thrilling 650-metre altitude drop with panoramic views of the Japanese Northern Alps throughout the flight.
Their most popular experience is the tandem flight course, a 10 to 15 minute sightseeing flight where passengers fly with an experienced instructor and require no prior experience — anyone who can jog about 10 metres and weighs between 25 and 85 kilograms can participate. The school also runs multi-day paragliding certification courses for aspiring pilots, from introductory ground handling through to solo flight licensing. The gondola ticket to the launch site is included in the tandem flight price.
What makes Sky Blue special is the sheer drama of the Hakuba Valley flying environment. Launching from Happo-one puts you face-to-face with the 3,000-metre peaks of the Northern Alps, including Shirouma-dake and the Hakuba ridgeline, while the broad valley floor provides a generous, safe landing zone. A free shuttle from JR Hakuba Station is available with advance booking, making the experience accessible to visitors without a car. The school operates from spring through autumn, offering a spectacular alternative to Hakuba's famous winter snow sports.
