About Ski School Koch Obertauern
Ski School Koch is the oldest and most established ski school in Obertauern, founded in 1947 and still family-run after nearly eight decades of continuous operation. Located on Römerstraße in the centre of the resort, Koch has trained generations of skiers and snowboarders on the snow-sure slopes of this high-altitude Austrian destination, which sits at 1,740 metres and typically opens earlier and closes later than most Alpine resorts thanks to its reliable snowfall.
The lesson programme spans group and private instruction for children aged four and up through to adult improvers and advanced skiers. Beyond standard piste lessons, Koch offers specialist courses in ski touring, freeriding, and telemark, as well as more unusual options like snow biking — including guided moonlight snow bike tours. Snowshoe hiking and torchlight evening walks round out the winter activity catalogue. The school provides a hotel pick-up service, collecting guests directly from their accommodation's ski cellar, and operates a modern booking app with electronic ticketing and free cancellation up to 24 hours before the lesson.
What distinguishes Ski School Koch is the depth of experience behind the operation and the range of activities that go well beyond standard ski instruction. The multilingual international instructor team brings diverse teaching styles, and the school's willingness to innovate — from snow biking to app-based booking — keeps it relevant while honouring a tradition that stretches back to the postwar birth of Austrian mass tourism skiing.
