About Lookout Mountain Flight Park
Lookout Mountain Flight Park is the largest and most popular full-time hang gliding school and flight centre in the United States, perched atop Lookout Mountain just ten miles southwest of Chattanooga in Rising Fawn, Georgia. Since opening in 1978, the park has drawn pilots and first-timers from around the world to experience the thrill of free flight above the Tennessee Valley's dramatic ridgelines and patchwork farmland.
The park offers tandem hang gliding flights for beginners, requiring no experience, where you soar to 1,500 or 3,000 feet strapped to a certified instructor with panoramic views of Lookout Valley. For those who want to learn to fly solo, a progressive training program starts with bunny-hill solo flights and advances through ridge soaring and thermal flying. Paragliding instruction is also available, and the park hosts competitions and fly-ins throughout the year.
What makes Lookout Mountain Flight Park exceptional is the combination of reliable flying conditions, world-class instruction, and decades of operational history. The 1,340-foot launch elevation and consistent ridge lift create some of the best hang gliding conditions on the East Coast. Weather permitting, morning classes run every day of the year except Christmas, a testament to the site's reliability and the team's commitment to keeping people in the air.
