About Leavenworth Winter Sports Club
The Leavenworth Winter Sports Club is a nonprofit community organisation that operates three separate winter recreation venues in and around Leavenworth, making it one of the most comprehensive winter sports facilities in Washington's Cascade Range. The club runs the Leavenworth Ski Hill on Ski Hill Drive, a historic community ski area with rope tows and a moving carpet, as well as the Icicle River Trails Nordic centre and a dedicated tubing and sledding hill.
Facilities span alpine skiing and snowboarding for beginners and families on the ski hill's gentle terrain, 26 kilometres of groomed Nordic trails for classic and skate skiing, snowshoe trails, fat biking routes, and a tubing hill with multiple lanes. The ski hill offers a mellow learning environment with affordable day tickets, making it an ideal introduction to downhill skiing without the crowds and expense of major resorts like Stevens Pass. Lessons are available for children and adults through volunteer-run programmes.
What makes the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club special is its community-driven model — operated by local volunteers passionate about keeping winter sports accessible and affordable. The historic ski hill has been serving the Leavenworth community since 1929, and the club continues to invest in grooming equipment, trail maintenance, and facility improvements funded through memberships and day tickets rather than corporate ownership.
