About Blue Knuckles Sport Fishing
Blue Knuckles Sport Fishing is a private charter fishing operation based at Moss Landing Harbor, strategically positioned at the midpoint of Monterey Bay directly above the head of the Monterey Submarine Canyon. This location — where the canyon's 2-mile depths rise sharply toward the continental shelf — creates some of the most productive fishing grounds on the California coast, with deep-water species accessible within a short run from the harbour mouth.
Operating a 32-foot sport sedan rigged for serious offshore fishing, Blue Knuckles runs 6-pack private charters (maximum 6 anglers) targeting seasonal species that rotate throughout the year: king salmon and halibut in spring, albacore tuna and white seabass in summer, lingcod and rockfish year-round, and Dungeness crab during the winter commercial season. All trips include rods, tackle, bait, fish cleaning, and bagging — anglers just need to show up with a California fishing licence and a cooler. The captain adjusts target species and fishing grounds based on real-time conditions, current reports, and seasonal migrations.
The private 6-pack format is what sets Blue Knuckles apart from the larger party boats operating out of Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf. With a maximum of six anglers, there's no fighting for rail space, the captain can run to distant spots that party boats can't justify for 30 passengers, and the overall experience feels more like fishing with a knowledgeable friend than riding a floating bus. For serious anglers visiting the Monterey Bay area, this is the premium charter option.
