About Black Diamond Tours
Black Diamond Tours has been guiding skiers and snowboarders into Niseko's backcountry since 2003, making them one of the longest-established freeride guiding operations in Hokkaido. Based out of the Niseko Village area, they specialise in off-piste and backcountry day tours that take intermediate-to-advanced riders beyond the resort boundaries into the deep powder terrain that makes Niseko a pilgrimage destination for snow enthusiasts worldwide.
Their day tour programme covers a range of terrain options depending on conditions and group ability — from lift-accessed sidecountry runs off Annupuri and Hirafu to full backcountry touring excursions using skins and splitboards. Multi-day packages combine guiding with accommodation at their own Black Diamond Lodge, creating an all-inclusive freeride experience. Guides carry full avalanche safety equipment and conduct briefings before each tour, ensuring clients understand rescue protocols and terrain assessment. The maximum group size is typically six guests per guide, maintaining both safety and the quality of the powder experience.
What makes Black Diamond Tours stand out is the combination of two decades of local terrain knowledge with a genuine passion for sharing Hokkaido's backcountry with international visitors. Their guides know the secret stashes, understand the maritime snowpack's unique characteristics, and can read the daily conditions to find the best snow each morning. The integrated lodge-and-guiding model means clients can wake up, eat breakfast, gear up, and be skinning into untracked powder within an hour — an efficiency that standalone guiding services simply cannot match.
